“Mandelson betrayed our country,” UK’s Starmer says after Epstein relations revealed

From Global News.

Speaking in the House of Commons Wednesday, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer admitted he regretted appointing former Ambassador to the United States Peter Mandelson after documents revealed last September that he remained close to the late, convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

British police launched an investigation into Mandelson Tuesday over alleged misconduct in public office, following claims that he leaked market-sensitive information to Epstein.

“To learn that there was a cabinet minister leaking sensitive information at the height of the response to the 2008 [market] crash is beyond infuriating,” Starmer said. “Mandelson betrayed our country, our Parliament and my party,” he added.

When Opposition leader Kemi Badenoch questioned if Starmer knew about Mandelson’s continued relationship with Epstein – after he was convicted for sex crimes – Starmer responded, “’What was not known was the depth, the sheer depth and extent of the relationship. He [Mandelson] lied about that to everyone for years.”
