Markiplier: ‘Iron Lung broke world record for amount of blood’ | BBC News

From BBC News.

Iron Lung is YouTuber Markiplier’s debut sci‑fi horror film, based on the hit indie game where a convict explores an ocean made entirely of human blood – alone. The movie debuted with a $17.8M opening weekend, climbing past $43M worldwide.

Markiplier wrote, directed, financed, and starred in the film, and he’s been open about the production’s wildest challenge: using more fake blood than any movie before it. As a result, real‑world blood donation drives took place across the US, with fans lining up outside cinemas to give blood after screenings.

Markiplier worked closely with game creator David Szymanski to keep the world authentic, relying heavily on physical effects. He spoke to Newsbeat’s Naomi de Souza about the film and its challenges.
