From Global News.
Thailand’s Queen Mother Sirikit has died at 93, the Royal Household Bureau said in a statement on Saturday.
Sirikit was hospitalized since Sept. 7, 2019, due to several illnesses and developed a bloodstream infection in October before passing away peacefully on Friday, the palace said.
"When I learnt the news, my world stopped," Maneenat Laowalert, a Bangkok resident, said.
A mourning period of one year has been declared for members of the royal family and household.
Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul cancelled his trip to the ASEAN Summit in Malaysia due to the Queen Mother’s death, a government spokesperson said. The cabinet will meet on Saturday to discuss a royal funeral.
