Scam centres are booming along the Myanmar-Thailand border, draining billions from victims.
A highly publicised crackdown starting in February 2025 saw around 7,000 workers freed, with Thailand cutting the compounds’ internet.
But an AFP investigation found that the scam centres are still in business and bigger than ever.
The revelations have now prompted the Myanmar military to raid the compounds and Starlink to disable thousands of internet receivers used by scammers.
