After reaching an agreement in principle with Ottawa that would let Alberta front the regulatory approvals for its major projects, Premier Danielle Smith argues the deal ‘restores the balance that was always envisioned in how our country should work.’ Asked whether Alberta needs to raise the standards of its assessments to replace Ottawa’s process, Smith says she doesn’t think ‘the length of time an approval takes is an indication of due diligence.’
