New York City’s official emergency notification system warned residents that heavy snow and intense winds will continue through the morning.
"Several bands of very heavy snow will likely persist through mid- morning across the area with snowfall rates of 1 – 2 inches per hour, possibly locally higher & northerly wind gusts of 40 – 60 mph will produce blizzard conditions," the notification issued at 7:30 a.m. said.
New York City recorded significant snowfall totals, including 17.9 inches in Mott Haven in the Bronx; 17.4 inches in Williamsburg, Brooklyn; and 15.1 inches in Central Park.
