“No better guy to have on the mound”: Jays’ Max Scherzer gets 2nd World Series Game 7 start

From Global News.

Toronto Blue Jays’ Max Scherzer will become the only living pitcher to start a winner-take-all World Series Game 7 twice in their career when he takes to the mound Saturday night. The game became necessary after the Los Angeles Dodgers’ 3-1 win at the Rogers Centre on Friday night.

The Dodgers announced Shohei Ohtani, on short rest, will start Game 7 for them.

Toronto will play a World Series Game 7 for the first time and is looking for its third championship, the first in over thirty years after back-to-back crowns in 1992 and ’93.

The Dodgers, meanwhile, are aiming to become the first team to win consecutive titles since the Yankees’ did it from 1998 to 2000.

“No better guy to have on the mound to kind of navigate the emotions and stuff,” said Blue Jays’ manager John Schneider about Scherzer as he looks head to Game 7.

Scherzer, a three-time Cy Young award winner, hopes to win his third World Series ring after previous titles in Washington and Texas.
