“No roadblock at all”: Trump lowers tariffs on China after meeting President Xi Jinping

From Global News.

Following a tense year between Washington and Beijing, U.S. President Donald Trump has lowered tariffs on China by 10 per cent – putting them down to 47 per cent.

The move came during negotiations with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday at the APEC summit in Busan, South Korea. In return, Jinping agreed to crack down on the illicit fentanyl trade.

In what Trump called an “amazing” and “very successful meeting,” China also committed to the resumption of large soybean purchases from the U.S. and in keeping rare earth exports flowing – a topic Trump says there’s now “no roadblock at all” in.

The Republican leader is now expected to visit China in April 2026, with Jinping supposedly travelling to the White House “sometime after that,” according to Trump.
