From Global News.
U.S. President Donald Trump said Wednesday that a U.S.-backed ceasefire in Gaza was not at risk after Israel launched airstrikes on the enclave, killing 26 people as a response to the alleged killing of an Israeli soldier.
"As I understand it, they took out an Israeli soldier," Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One. "So, the Israelis hit back and they should hit back. When that happens, they should hit back," he added. The Israeli military confirmed the soldier’s death on Wednesday.
"Nothing is going to jeopardize" the ceasefire, Trump said. Hamas denied responsibility for the attack on Israeli forces in Rafah, in southern Gaza and said in a statement that it remained committed to the ceasefire deal.
Meanwhile, in Gaza City residents reacted in despair to the latest strikes. “Unbelievable horror… They took their hostages, and that’s it. Are they going to kill the rest or what?" asked Gaza City resident Alaa Jarada.
