“One for the ages”: US Financial Times editor calls Carney’s Davos speech “extraordinary”

From Global News.

Financial Times US national editor Ed Luce calls Prime Minister Mark Carney’s speech at Davos "one for the ages", saying it marked a rare and direct break from Western diplomacy.

In an interview with The West Block host Ben Mulroney, Luce said Craney warned that middle power countries like Canada and Britain were weak against the United States unless they acted together to match "American clout."

"Carney was the first Western leader to stand up and state very plainly that this isn’t some brief aberration or transition. This is a rupture," Luce said.

He also added that it has only happened twice in Davos history that a speech received a standing ovation — for Nelson Mandela and for Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
