The number of overdose deaths has been falling in Canada and across North America. But there’s a new layer of volatility in the opioid crisis — animal tranquilizers —laced in street drugs.
Public health officials in British Columbia say Medetomidine is showing up in as much as 50 per cent of illicit opioids.
In the country’s largest city, that number could be 80 per cent or higher, says Toronto’s Drug Checking Services.
