The Pentagon confirmed Friday it has accepted a US$130 million donation from a private donor to help pay military members during the U.S. government shutdown.

While unusual, the gift covers only a small portion of the billions of dollars needed to cover service member paycheques.

The next payday is coming within the week and it’s unclear if the Trump administration will move government funds around to cover service member earnings.

As Candice Cole reports, the private donation raises ethical questions after President Donald Trump said a “friend” had gifted the funds.
