At a press conference on Sunday, Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre outlined a plan to revive Canada’s auto sector through a proposed tariff-free auto pact with the United States.
Poilievre said the proposal would remove the GST on Canadian-made vehicles, tie duty-free vehicle sales in Canada to domestic production and scrap federal EV mandates and subsidies.
He also criticized Prime Minister Mark Carney’s approach to U.S. tariffs, saying continued trade barriers threaten Canadian auto manufacturing and jobs.
