Politifact on Trump sending out election monitors

From PBS NewsHour.

The Department of Justice announced last Friday that it would send election monitors to California and New Jersey ahead of the Nov. 4, 2025, general election to "ensure transparency, ballot security, and compliance with federal law." California and New Jersey Republicans asked the Justice Department to send the election monitors.

The two Democratic-led states have key elections that day. Californians are voting on Proposition 50, a congressional redistricting measure, while New Jersey is holding a competitive governor’s race.

The department did not say how many monitors it will deploy in California and New Jersey.

@politifact’s Ellen Hine explains that the practice is neither unusual nor new, but rather a long-standing and lawful federal practice that previous administrations have also used.
