From DW News.
The US government has shut down for the first time in nearly seven years, after the deadline to extend funding expired at midnight in Washington. Republicans failed to secure enough Democratic votes in the Senate to keep the government running. Now, hundreds of thousands of civil servants could face temporary pay suspensions, while all non-essential operations are likely to halt. The last shutdown, which was also the longest in US history, occurred during Trump’s first term and lasted 35 days.
