At just 20 years old, Valentino Guseli’s world was turned upside down when the unfortunate crash by Canada’s Marc McMorris landed him an unexpected spot in the Olympics’ big air qualifying competition, learning about it just the night before the competition. He then proceeded to the final.

“No matter hopeless you might feel… there might be something amazing and miraculous just around the corner,” Guseli told Gavino Garay.
Guseli competes in the final on February 7 in Livigno, Italy.
