From Global News.
Hundreds of evacuees have taken shelter at a makeshift evacuation centre after a landslide in Indonesia’s West Java province killed multiple people and left dozens missing.
Indonesia’s disaster mitigation agency said on Monday that 17 people have been identified from the weekend landslide in West Java, out of a total of 34 bodies recovered.
One of the survivors, Siti Halimah, described the moments leading up to the disaster, saying she heard pounding noises and at least eight heavy tremors that made the houses feel as though they were shaking, before realising that the noise was a landslide and not an earthquake.
The landslide occurred two months after cyclone-induced floods and landslides on the island of Sumatra killed 1,200 people, destroyed homes and displaced over a million residents.
