The rap star of Lapland – A voice for the Sami | DW Documentary

From DW Documentary.

The film follows Sami rapper Mihkku Laiti, who lives in the northernmost corner of Lapland. It is a coming-of-age story that follows Mihkku’s career as a musician, and his rise to stardom.

Rapper Yungmiqu, also known by his real name Mihkku Laiti, inspires people. He lives his Sami culture through music and proudly wears a Sami costume that he designed himself. He has mastered joik, the traditional throat singing of the Sami people, as well as rap. He raps and joiks, building his brand online, but he also works to master the labor-intensive art of reindeer herding. He sees his roots and the Sami language as his greatest strengths.
