On Friday, Ecuador’s environment ministry released 158 giant tortoises on Floreana Island in part of a broader project aimed at reintroducing endemic species considered locally extinct on the island. The tortoises were bred and raised on Santa Cruz Island and have strong genetic ties to a lineage discovered on Wolf Volcano. #tortoise #galapagostortoise #wildlifeconservation
