Farmers protest in Athlone, Ireland, against the European Union’s planned trade deal with the South American bloc Mercosur, with several thousand turning out a day after the EU gave the agreement the go-ahead. The deal has been championed by business groups, but heavily criticised by European farmers, who have been demonstrating against it for months.
