Trump disparages Rob Reiner after his killing

From PBS NewsHour.

Despite a number of Republican lawmakers denouncing his remarks, President Donald Trump continued to call actor/director Rob Reiner "deranged" less than a day after his killing.

"He was a deranged person as far as Trump is concerned," the president said about himself.

Trump later said he "was not a fan of Rob Reiner at all in any way, shape or form. I thought he was very bad for our country."

The president’s comments come hours after his initial post on Truth Social said Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, died "reportedly due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME," referring to a pejorative term used to describe opposition to Trump.

Los Angeles Police Chief Jim McDonnell said Monday that the Reiners’ younger son, Nick, 32, had been “booked for murder” in connection with the deaths of his parents. McDonnell said the LAPD’s robbery and homicide division is conducting the investigation.

Several Republican lawmakers, including Reps. Thomas Massie of Kentucky, Mike Lawler of New York and Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, criticized the president’s initial social media post about the Reiners.

"Regardless of how you felt about Rob Reiner, this is inappropriate and disrespectful discourse about a man who was just brutally murdered," Massie said.
