U.S. President Donald Trump and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani appeared to find common ground over their shared love for New York City following a meeting at the White House on Friday, with both men saying they agree on affordability – a topic that Mamdani made the centrepiece of his campaign.

Trump told reporters Friday that he was “surprised” by what had been a very “productive” meeting between the two men.

Mamdani was asked about previous comments calling Trump a “fascist” and a “despot,” but the question was brushed off by Trump, who said he’d “been called worse.”

Trump previously referred to the New York City mayor-elect as a “100 per cent communist lunatic” and a “total nut job.” However, after the pair met, Trump said he would have “no problem” living in New York with Mamdani as mayor.
