A video released Tuesday by six Democratic lawmakers telling U.S. military members that they can and must refuse any illegal orders was called "seditious behaviour" and "punishable by death" by President Donald Trump in a Truth Social post.

The Democratic lawmakers include Senators Elissa Slotkin, a former CIA analyst and Iraq war veteran, Mark Kelly, a former astronaut and Navy veteran and Representatives Jason Crow, Maggie Goodlander, Chris Deluzio and Chrissy Houlahan.

Asked about the president’s Truth Social comments, the White House said Trump doesn’t want to execute lawmakers, but said lawmakers involved in the video could face legal repercussions.

Sen. Chuck Schumer said Thursday he had asked Capitol Police to provide extra protection for senators Elissa Slotkin and Mark Kelly as a result of Trump’s comments.
