Trump supports Lutnick, White House says after he claims no relationship with Epstein

From Global News.

Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick sat before U.S. Congress on Tuesday amid revelations about long-term ties between him and late financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Lutnick was among the many high-profile figures included in the latest batch of Epstein-related files published by the U.S. Department of Justice in January. Documents showed that Lutnick maintained contact with Epstein through 2018 and even had plans to visit his private island for lunch – years after he claimed to have severed ties with the criminal.

Epstein was arrested in charged in 2019 for sex trafficking and sexually abusing underage girls for years on said island. And while Lutnick admitted he visited Epstein’s island in 2012, he said it was on a “family vacation” with his wife and kids.

Since the Epstein files were released, calls for Lutnick to either be removed from his post or step down have ramped up. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, however, said Tuesday that President Donald Trump – who is referenced thousands of times in the files – “fully supports the secretary” amid the controversy.
