Trump tariff threats back in spotlight as CUSMA trade talks to start in January

The Canadian government will formally start trade discussions with the U.S. in January on the renewal of the Canada-U.S.-Mexico trade agreement.

The trade deal is up for review in 2026, and Canada is “accelerating efforts to deepen trade relations,” Prime Minister Mark Carney said in a statement late Thursday.

It’s put Trump’s tariffs back in the spotlight as Canadian companies face “uncertainty” heading into the trade talks. Mackenzie Gray reports.
