UK meningitis outbreak worsens, health secretary calls it “extremely serious”

From Global News.

Confirmed cases of the meningitis outbreak at the University of Kent in Canterbury, England has risen to 20 on Wednesday after two young people died of the disease.

UK Health Minister Wes Streeting said Wednesday that while contracting meningitis is "extremely serious", the general risk from this outbreak spreading is "very low.”

Currently, all linked to the outbreak are young adults, the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) said. A 21-year old student at the University of Kent and a teenage student at a school in the town of Faversham have died.

The UKHSA said it had administered around 2,500 doses of antibiotics across sites in Kent.
