Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says his country is considering a newly-submitted U.S. peace proposal to end the war with Russia.

The U.S. plan includes Ukrainian territorial concessions and limited security guarantees. Several European leaders, however, including the U.K., Germany and France, assured Zelenskyy of their support.

“Now is one of the most difficult moments in our history,” Zelenskyy said in an address to the nation Friday. “Ukraine may find itself facing a very difficult choice: either the loss of dignity, or the risk of losing a key partner,” he added, referring to the proposed plan.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, too, has seen the proposal, and said Friday that it could be “used as the basis of a final, peaceful settlement” between the warring nations. He also claimed Ukraine was against the plan, and threatened further military action.
