US Senator Jeff Merkley held the floor for nearly 23 hours, delivering a marathon speech against President Donald Trump’s "authoritarian" actions.

"Mr. President, I’ve come to the Senate floor tonight to ring the alarm bells. We’re in the most perilous moment, the biggest threat to our republic since the Civil War. President Trump is shredding our Constitution. Is it okay for masked federal agents to arrest people off the street because of their skin color or their accent? No way. Not in a free America.”
"And at this strategy of doing authoritarian bills in which families lose and billionaires win. Families lose their health care or their nutrition benefits or their Medicaid in order to fund tax breaks for billionaires.”
