US House passes bill to end historic government shutdown, sends measure to Trump

The full U.S. government shutdown caused by a funding lapse on Oct. 1 officially came to an end on Wednesday. A bill to reopen passed in the House and was sent to the White House for President Donald Trump’s signature.

It’s a significant win in terms of getting federal workers paid and getting food stamps out, but it’s also a blow to Democrats – now saddled with infighting over a decision by some members to back the bill.
