U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social on Tuesday an agreement with the interim authorities in Venezuela to turn over “between 30 and 50 million barrels of high quality, sanctioned oil,” to the U.S. Meanwhile on Wednesday, U.S. tactical teams boarded and took control of two more tankers connected with Venezuela.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio commented on Wednesday that “…as you see today, two more ships were seized. We are in the midst right now and, in fact, about to execute on a deal to take all the oil — they have oil stuck in Venezuela — they can’t move it because of our quarantine and because it’s sanctioned… We’re going to sell it in the market place — at market rates and not at the discounts Venezuela was getting.”

Rubio added that money from the sale of the oil will be dispersed by the U.S. to “benefit the Venezuelan people,” along with the U.S.
