The U.S. has sunk an Iranian warship amid the unfolding conflict in the Middle East, U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth says.

Speaking to reporters at the Pentagon Wednesday, Hegseth showed an unclassified video capturing a strike on what has been identified as Iran’s IRIS Dena vessel in the Indian Ocean.

Hegseth described it as a “quiet death,” noting that it was the first torpedo sinking since the Second World War.

“We are only four days into this, and the results have been incredible,” Hegseth said of the violence in Iran. “The combination is sheer destruction for our radical Islamist Iranian adversaries. They are toast, and they know it. Or at least, soon enough, they will know it,” he added.

Conflict across the Middle East has escalated since last week, when the U.S. and Iran ordered joint military strikes across Iran, killing Supreme Leader Ali Khamanei.
