From Global News.
Venezuela’s acting president Delcy Rodriguez declared a seven-day mourning period for military personnel killed during U.S. strikes in and around Caracas on Saturday.
The decision was made to “honour and glory the young men and women who died, offering their lives, defending Venezuela,” Rodriguez told locals on Wednesday.
Roughly 24 Venezuelan officers were killed in the raid, along with 32 Cuban military and police personal. Cuba, too, declared a period of mourning.
During Saturday’s raid, ordered by U.S. President Donald Trump, U.S. forces captured Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores – who were arraigned in a New York City court on Monday on weapons and drug-related charges.
“There is no war here, because we’re not at war. We’re a people and a country of peace that was assaulted and attacked,” Rodriguez concluded.
