Rep. Thomas Tiffany, R-Wis., asked Attorney General Pam Bondi about potential fraud and misuse of federal funds in Minnesota and across the country in a House oversight hearing Wednesday.
“I would remind everyone here why did this happen in Minneapolis? Why did federal law enforcement have to go to Minneapolis? Because of industrial-scale fraud,” he said, referring to alleged fraud of COVID-19 funds.
He then argued every governor in the state should “avail themselves of federal resources to make sure that this industrial-scale fraud is rooted out to protect the taxpayers of the United States.”
“Absolutely,” Bondi agreed.
Wednesday’s hearing offered an opportunity for lawmakers to question Bondi on a number of controversial issues involving the Justice Department, including around the Trump administration’s failure to meet a Congress-mandated deadline to release all of its Epstein files; the legal justification for the administration’s capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and strikes on alleged drug boats in the Caribbean and Eastern Pacific; as well as prosecutions of perceived Trump political rivals like James Comey and Letitia James. Bondi is seeking to revive both cases, which were already thrown out by a U.S. district judge.
