WATCH: Will Trump’s MAGA base be angry over Iran attack? Rep. Burchett says no

From PBS NewsHour.

Rep. Tim Burchett, R-Tenn., said that President Donald Trump’s MAGA base won’t be angry about the president’s surprise decision to move forward with joint U.S.-Israeli military strikes against Iran that began Saturday.

Burchett called Iran “bad actors” who are aligned with the militant group Hezbollah and “do business with China.”

The Trump administration has cited the imperative to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons as a major impetus for the weekend’s strikes, which has led to deaths of six American service members so far.

Trump, who promised “no new wars” during his reelection campaign, said Monday that the strikes could last “four to five weeks,” or longer. Iran, which has been carrying out retaliatory strikes against Israel and some Gulf nations, said more than 500 have been killed in the country.

Congress is planning to vote as early as Wednesday on a war powers resolution that would curb Trump’s use of military power in Iran. It’s unclear how this resolution, which has an uphill battle in gaining support, would change the direction of the conflict if passed.

When asked about this vote, Burchett said the resolution won’t pass.
