WATCH: Zohran Mamdani sworn in as mayor of New York City

Zohran Mamdani took a midnight oath of office Jan. 1 to become New York City’s mayor.

Mamdani’s swearing-in, held in a historic subway station below City Hall, marked the first time the city had a Muslim, South Asian and African-born mayor. The 34-year-old Democrat took the oath on a centuries-old Quran.
