From Just Have a Think.
Our oceans absorb about 30% of all the carbon dioxide that we humans spew into our atmosphere, and about 90% of the consequent planetary heat. If that process didn’t happen then our planet would be uninhabitable for us humans. New research has revealed that our understanding of how carbon is sequestered in the mid layers of the oceans and down on the deep sea floor has been wrong. That is prompting a rethink of how our human activities, including deep-sea mining, might have more profound impacts than we previously imagined.
