The message from hosts from the Munich Security conference is shockingly stark. As world leaders from 50 countries and hundreds of top security experts converge in Germany, the groups report points directly at the U.S.

“The world has entered a period of wrecking-ball politics. Sweeping destruction — rather than careful reforms and policy corrections — is the order of the day,” a statement on the conference website states.

“The most prominent of those who promise to free their country from the existing order’s constraints and rebuild a stronger, more prosperous nation is the current US administration. As a result, more than 80 years after construction began, the US-led post-1945 international order is now under destruction.”

Stephen Walt, Harvard Kennedy School professor in International Affairs, tells The West Block’s Ben Mulroney that “the tone of the report is quite unusual… But on the other hand, it’s not surprising given the Trump administration’s consistently hostile, even predatory behaviour.”
