A huge emergency response was called to the Nakiska ski area, about 100 km west of Calgary, on Friday afternoon after two skiers were trapped in an avalanche that occurred in-bounds at the ski area.

An RCMP spokesperson confirmed one of the trapped skiers was able to get out on their own, but a second skier was “unresponsive” when found.

Alberta Emergency Services said a youth was rushed to hospital in critical condition.
