8 people, 3 pets rescued after landslide cuts off access to homes in BC

From Global News.

A series of dramatic rescues were carried out Thursday morning after a landslide cut off access to several homes near Coquitlam river, B.C.

Eight people along with a cat and two dogs were airlifted to safety amid heavy rainfall and low clouds.

“They were completely surrounded by very liquified gravel and sand. So much that there was no way to step on it,” Coquitlam Mayor Richard Stewart said.

As Taya Fast reports, this hillside has long been a concern, especially during heavy rain.
