The day was Sept. 1st, 1995. Thirty years ago, Global News was live at the trial of Canada’s most notorious serial killer, Paul Bernardo, when his guilty verdict came down mid-show, interrupting the noon broadcast to cover the reaction outside the courthouse.

Bernardo is serving an indeterminate life sentence for the kidnapping, sexual assault and murder of 15-year-old Kristen French and 14-year-old Leslie Mahaffy in the early 1990s near St. Catharines, Ont.
