The 1920s and 1930s were a turning point for Japan. It was an era of assassinations, disasters, and rising militarism. From the shocking assassination of Prime Minister Hara Takashi at Tokyo Station to the devastating Great Kanto Earthquake that gave rise to ultra-nationalist movements, Japan’s path through the Taishō and early Shōwa periods was anything but stable.
