During a press conference on the wildfires, the head of Spain’s Civil Protection, Virginia Barcones, says: "This tragic episode in our country’s history, involving simultaneous large forest fires over a period of 20 days, in a very important part of our country, has come to an end." Blazes that flared across Spain this month have ravaged over 350,000 hectares (865,000 acres), killing four people and forcing thousands to temporarily evacuate.
