Tim is very fond of his Endless Spring Toy. It has had a lot of use over the last 30 years…

In this video he traces its origins from some small toys with surprise springs inside, all the way up to his giant Endless Spring.

Recently he became intrigued about how long it would take for all the springs to leap out of the tube if the tube was pointing vertically upwards, if the tube was held horizontally, and – finally – if the tube was pointing straight down!

Tim reckons the first set took around 14 seconds, and the second, horizontal one was 7 or 8 seconds.

Firing them straight downwards took between 3 and 4 seconds. Gravity – a wonderful thing!
