Across the world in Puerto Rico, while the corruption of the power utility, Luma, led to months of blackouts in the wake of Hurricane Maria, communities that invested in solar arrays were able to keep the lights on. Indeed, Ajuntas, a small mountain town, was hit hard by Maria– cut off from supplies and electricity due to torn up mountain roads and downed power lines. In the aftermath of the storm things seemed dire. But there was, quite literally, a light in the dark. Casa Pueblo, a local community organization, had installed a solar array and was able to keep electricity flowing.
