Thousands of people take part in a protest in Brasilia, Brazil, against a parliamentary initiative that extends immunity for legislators and an amnesty project that could benefit far-right former president Jair Bolsonaro, sentenced to 27 years in prison for trying to stage a coup. Earlier this week, Brazil’s Chamber of Deputies, with a conservative majority, approved a proposed constitutional amendment known as the Shielding Project, which requires Congress to authorize any criminal charges against deputies and senators through a secret vote.
