From Global News.
Congo’s former president, Joseph Kabila was sentenced to death in absentia on Tuesday by a military court that convicted him of war crimes, treason, and crimes against humanity stemming from his alleged role in backing the advance of Rwanda-backed M23 rebels earlier this year..
"We are satisfied because justice has been served," said Lawyer Richard Bondo.
However, residents in Bukavu, a city in eastern Congo, reacted with dismay at the ruling.
Kabila, who held power from 2001 to 2019, has denied any wrongdoing, claiming the judiciary is politicized. He did not attend the trial and was without legal representation; neither he nor his representatives have commented on the verdict.
