French prime minister quits after only 2 weeks on the job

From Global News.

France’s new prime minister resigned his post on Monday, just hours after announcing his cabinet and after less than a month on the job.

Sébastien Lecornu faced backlash over his cabinet selections, which appeared to be nearly identical to his predecessor’s. His decision to bring back former finance minister Bruno Le Maire to serve at the defence ministry was particularly controversial.

The new government, which lasted just hours, is the shortest-lived in modern French history and the resignation only deepens the country’s political crisis.

Lecornu blamed the collapse on the inability of political parties to compromise. In the wake of Lecornu’s resignation, opposition parties are calling for a snap election and for French President Emmanuel Macron to resign.
