Emergency crews in southeast Calgary evacuated businesses and shut down a large section of the Manchester Industrial Park after a suspicious package containing explosive material was discovered.

Police say the package was likely delivered to the wrong address and is too unstable to move safely.

The area’s airspace was closed within a two-nautical-mile radius, and the city activated its Emergency Operations Centre to coordinate the response.

Controlled detonations are planned as bomb-squad technicians and firefighters handle the unstable material.
