In a trial now entering its final phase, former Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro stands accused of attempting to stage a coup, leading an armed criminal organization and plotting to kill the country’s current president and a Supreme Court justice. In response, Bolsonaro ally U.S. President Donald Trump has slapped Brazil with steep 50 per cent tariffs and even sanctioned the Supreme Court justice overseeing the case.
