From Global News.
A British couple was reunited with their family on Friday after being detained for months by the Taliban on undisclosed charges.
Peter and Barbie Reynolds, aged 80 and 78, lived in Afghanistan for 18 years and ran an education organization. They were arrested by the Taliban’s interior ministry on Feb. 1.
In July, United Nations experts warned about the couple’s deteriorating health.
Qatar negotiated with Taliban authorities for several months to secure their release, in coordination with the U.K. and the couple’s family, an official with knowledge of the matter told Reuters.
Qatar has worked toward the release of foreigners detained in Afghanistan since the Taliban retook power in 2021.
